And this is the way to get homework done…

Posted by Ryan on August 28th, 2007.

So I slacked today, only to remember right now that I have homework to do :o

I had to interview 10 people about philosophy and ask three questions. The questions were:

  1. What is philosophy?
  2. Who is a philosopher?
  3. What is the relevancy of philosophy for us today?

Once I have the answers, I need to look for patterns, and then summarize the results, which will be discussed in groups. And of course, in normal me fashion, this is due tomorrow :o

Either leave a comment here that answers the questions, and include your age (or make one up :P ). You can also use the contact page to answer if you wish.

Thanks all.

What is philosophy? To me, Philosophy is basically just a code of ethics we live by, and correct ways or principles of thinking.
Who is a philosopher? Anyone can be. They don’t have to be highly educated. It just is someone who discusses ethics/philosophy with a group of people or person.
What is the relevancy of philosophy for us today? Are you kidding me? Today, more than ever, philosophy is important. Ethics and reasoning have gone by the wayside in many households and circles. These things should be brought to the forefront, as they were “way back when”.
    and yes, I’m 36 :P

Philosophy is a more scientific approach to examine the way we live our lives, and explain the unexplained. Where people have traditionally turned to mysticism for answers, the great cultures of the world, the Greeks, the Romans, the philosopher was much more respected than the priest
Philosophers are scholars who examine history and culture, and try to present their findings, and lessons to everyone. Some such as the classical philosophers, do this through theater or poetry.
Philosophy has a major role in modern times, as people flock away from religion, the more agnostic and scientific teachings of philosophy will guide the ethics of modern culture.

    1. What is philosophy? Philosophy is trying to figure out why we look at a picture of a starving child and think its art. Rather. Its trying to make logic out of how our brains think and interupt.
    2. Who is a philosopher? A Philosopher is a very wise person, who can handle very long winded conversations about said topic that usually go over my head.
    3. What is the relevancy of philosophy for us today?
Philosophy gives us something to think about, and use for quotes on game shows, as well as filling awkward moments
