Of all the times…

So the tech department here at Quinnipiac made a few changes during the summer, two of which I don’t agree with.
The first would be wireless in the dorms. Dorms are not the best place to rely on wireless. It wouldn’t be bad if there were enough wired ports for everyone, but no, there’s only one per room.
The second thing is this antivirus they put on the server that all our traffic goes through. What this means is that I can’t infect a virtual machine like last year when I was helping in the GeekU program at geekstogo.com. I also can’t get some files which I want, ones that I know are good. Instead of spending the money for the AV, it could have been put to better us…computer saftey classes (as in viruses, malware, social engineering awareness type things) that would protect users at their homes and other locations for when they are not at school.
And back to the wireless…a few days ago a university wide email was sent out saying that they would be working on the wireless system, and turning if of at 0100 Friday to do so. Well, 0020 rolled around, and magically, my wireless shutdown…wasn’t just a AIM or mIRC that lost connection like sometimes happens. Windows lost the connection, and couldn’t find it again. To make matters worse, I was helping someone on IRC at the time. So I had to hurry down to the library and get back on asap.
That’s all I wanted to rant about. Enjoy your day
